What They say
Joining IIBC was a great experience! Even though all of the events were held virtually, the thrill of being an investment banker can be immensely felt throughout the competition.
That was due to how practical all of the cases were; from analyzing and valuing a company, making an attractive report and pitch deck, to presenting to a range of QIBs.
We also made new connections from countries all over the world and gained valuable insights from the great judges and speakers.
IIBC was definitely one of the most memorable moments in our university life!

Team ARK started the competition in May 2020, wanting to take on a challenge during the circuit breaker period in Singapore. The competition was challenging because there were many interesting requirements. We had to adapt as a team to overcome them one by one. Furthermore, we tried to think in the shoes of the judges to consider what they were looking out for, and tailored our presentation to their expectations. We believe this helped to portray the team in a more favourable light. Overall, we managed to sharpen our technical skills like DCF and also got to meet peers from all over the world virtually. It was truly a memorable experience.

As this is our team's first finance case, IIBC 2020 was definitely an eye opening learning experience for us. We have gained many invaluable insights and acquired new skills like financial modelling over the 4 months competition duration.
Moreover, IIBC 2020 has given us a great opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Indian travel and tourism industry as well as IPO processes. The in-depth insights shared by the judges and the insightful valuation masterclass by Mr Andrew have also definitely broadened our knowledge and inspired us to dive deeper to the industry in future.
Being a virtual competition, IIBC has its own set of challenges for the participants. However, the organising committee did a great job trying to make sure the competition progresses smoothly for the participants. For our team, IIBC 2020 was our first finance competition experience. We have encountered multiple challenges during the competition. Nevertheless, with our great teamwork and perseverance, we managed to overcome those difficulties, tapped on each other's strengths, learn and progress together as a team.

"IIBC was a thoroughly enriching experience. Spanning over multiple months, we explored the nuances of analyzing an M&A deal through the lens of a well prepared case. The journey
constituted financial analysis, valuation, qualitative and quantitative research, and other
imperative processes of deal implementation and M&A. It culminated in an impeccably
implemented 4 day event where we got to network with experts, professionals and peers from across the world put together by a deeply dedicated organizing team. The event was an
engaging simulation of the investment banking journey and an overall memorable experience."

For IIBC 2020, it can be said that there are more challenges, because at the beginning, this event was planned to be held offline, with the series of events plans have been completed but at a sudden it has to be overhauled and switched to online. Therefore, I think those kinds of challenges result in creating the IIBC now. It's not easy but we have each other (IIBC family) that can make IIBC successful.
Overall IIBC 2020 is exciting, the committee is really responsible and willing to take part in anything, I felt grateful to be able to work together with them. Through IIBC, there's a lot learn, like understanding each other better as we all experienced up and down moments. Furthermore, we learned how to conduct online events and because of that, it increases the opportunity to expand relations overseas. Moreover through this online event, we have the opportunity to create connections with more judges and speakers abroad as well.

Joining IIBC is a worthwhile experience, especially for undergraduate students who want to study or are currently involved in the investment banking world. Every year, IIBC always brings a case about investment banking which is always relevant to the current market situation and will always provide firsthand experience to every participant. So for all upcoming participants, will you accept the challenge and join us in IIBC 2021?

I was happy that IIBC 2020 could still be successfully held even after the COVID-19 pandemic hit because we overhauled all timelines. The challenges that I found it so difficult is to communicate or post announcements to the whole committee. After all, I gained many benefits including IB world knowledge, how to make proper documents, and obviously connections with new people.

At first, I was surprised that I was given the responsibilities as a treasurer. Nevertheless, I could learn how to lead people, knew about job description details for each division, and especially know more about IPO. There's a lot of benefits I gained, clearly, connections with many people, especially with one of IIBC's speaker, Mr. Andrew Stotz where I was given the opportunity to received a scholarship from Andrew Stotz Academy. Even so, not only I learned to be a part of a committee, but I also gained finance insights. Besides that, I found it difficult to manage my time, however I learned a lot from IIBC.

IIBC 2020 gave me a lot of important memories. As a member of the General Event Division, I learn a lot on how to work and discuss in a team. Not only that, I also learned to organised an online event in a professional way. Furthermore, IIBC 2020 does not only helps me to meet a lot of inspiring colleagues, but also chances to explore more insights about the Investment Banking Industry. Therefore, IIBC 2020 was one of the best committees I have participated in University.
